Demetra Sfendoni-Mentzou

Demetra Sfendoni-Mentzou is Professor Emerita of Philosophy of Science and the Founding and current President of the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Aristotle Studies” (www.dikam.auth.gr), of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki-Greece. Her Research and teaching fields are Philosophy of Science, Theory of Knowledge, C. S. Peirce’ Philosophy and she specializes in Aristotle’s Philosophy and Contemporary Scientific Thought, proposing a Neo-Aristotelian perspective of Science. Some of her books as author or editor are the following: Aristotle Today: Perspectives of Aristotle’s Philosophy of Nature and Contemporary Physics (in Greek, 2010). Aristotle and Contemporary Science, Vols. I. & II, ed., 2000 & 2001, Philosophy of Science, Vols. I. & II (in Greek, 2008), ed., Le Temps chez Aristote, ed. (2016), and, very recently, Aristotle –Contemporary Perspectives on his thought, ed. (Berlin: De Gruyter, 2018).
Demetra Sfendoni-Mentzou is the principal investigator of a number of European Research Projects on Aristotle’s Philosophy, and the chief organizer of a big number of international conferences. The more recent one is the World Congress «Arisotle 2400 Years», Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 23-29 May, 2016. She was also one of the vice-presidents of the 23rd World Congress of Philosophy, Athens, 2013.
