Tomoko Iwasawa is Professor of Comparative Religions at Reitaku University, Japan. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy of religion at Boston University. Her research theme is to explore the Japanese religious consciousness, by especially focusing on the notion of Japanese 'kami' in comparison with the monotheistic notion of divinity. Her publications include "Philosophical Implications of Shinto" in The Oxford Handbook of Japanese Philosophy (2015), "Tama in Japanese Myth: A Hermeneutical Study of Ancient Japanese Divinity" (University Press of America, 2011), and "Philosophical Faith as the Will to Communicate" in Philosophical Faith and the Future of Humanity (Springer, 2012).
